In my opinion that’s what I see has been happening for the last 20+ years.
Again, there was no peace deal. Nuland may have given her advice but there was no final deal to start with. Nor was Zelensky about to agree to one given the demands that Russia was making.
There was a peace deal and Boris Johnson killed it at the behest of the US. NATO expansion and the US/EU supported the coup of the duly elected government of Ukraine in 2014 which spawned the separatist movement in the Donbass and the first Russian invasion that resulted in the annexation of Crimea. The Obama/Biden Administration did essentially nothing in response. This war has been ongoing for ten years.
The second Russian invasion in 2022 could have been avoided thru diplomacy. However, the same national security team that was in charge in 2014 took over again in 2021. We have an Ukraine-compromised President, Blinken, Sullivan, Powers, and the now departed Nuland making decisions on the war. I have no trust in this national security team that has given us the war in Ukraine, the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal, the lifting of sanctions against Iran, and trying to hobble Israel’s response to the massacre of its citizens by Hamas. Our foreign policy is in the toilet. The Biden national security team has put us in great danger, and I have not included the threat posed by an open border and ten million illegal aliens.
I have a hard time understanding why Freepers would support Biden in this proxy war, which is weakening the West and helping China, the real existential threat. We can’t afford these endless wars. We are the world’s biggest debtor nation. We will run an almost three trillion dollar budget deficit this year. Debt servicing costs are now more than the annual defense budget.
There was a deal? Show me the text. There was no deal; there was only the initialing of some preliminary principles. In the subsequent negotiations Russia was making some unreasonable demands:
There have been several rounds of peace talks to halt the Russian invasion of Ukraine (2022–present) and end the Russo-Ukrainian War (2014–present) in an armistice. The first meeting was held four days after the start of the invasion, on 28 February 2022, in Belarus. It concluded without result, with delegations from both sides returning to their capitals for consultations. A second and third round of talks took place on 3 and 7 March 2022, on the Belarus–Ukraine border, in an undisclosed location in the Gomel region of Belarus. A fourth and fifth round of talks were respectively held on 10 and 14 March in Antalya, Turkey.
During a series of meetings, by the end of March Russia and Ukraine negotiators produced the Istanbul Communiqué, “Key Provisions of the Treaty on Ukraine’s Security Guarantees” - a framework of a possible agreement. The agreement would have declared Ukraine to be a neutral state, put a limit on its military, and list Russia and Western countries, including the US and the UK, as guarantors, obliged to assist Ukraine in case of aggression against it. The talks almost reached agreement, with both sides “consider[ing] far-reaching concessions”, but stopped in May 2022 due to a combination of several factors.
Peace talks and the stability of international borders were further discussed in the Ukrainian parliament during the week of 9 May 2022. Following the 2022 Ukrainian eastern counteroffensive, Russia renewed calls for peace talks, with the sources from the Russian government reporting that Russia is not truly committed to peace and is simply stalling for time while its forces trained and replenished for a future advance.

Victoria Nuland confirms the US and UK “advised” Ukraine to abandon the Istanbul peace agreement as it placed limitations on weapon systems in Ukraine
- The mediators (Israel & Turkey) argued the US pressured Zelensky to abandon the peace agreement as the US saw an opportunity to use Ukrainians to weaken a strategic rival.
So there was a framework and not an agreement. So the US and the UK advised. This is not the same as them blocking an agreement. I too would have advised the same because Russia was demanding an unjust peace. If this were about Russian security and NATO expansion then Russia could have had a deal since Zelensky agreed to no NATO membership. Putin turned it down because, as his own chief envoy to Ukraine admitted, he wanted Ukrainian land. Putin himself has recently stated that his primary goal is gaining Donbas. Even today Putin could have a neutral Ukraine if he just left Ukraine. Indeed, as long as he held Crimea and eastern Donbas Ukraine was blocked from joining NATO by its own rules. The only ones for whom this is a surrogate war are those isolationists who believe abandoning Ukraine is somehow a blow against Soros and the NWO. Stop justifying Russian aggression.
Biden declared that this proxy war was about regime change in Russia. SecDef Austin said the objective of the war was to weaken Russia militarily so they won’t do it again. Biden called Putin a war criminal. It will be difficult to negotiate a solution with a war criminal.
This ten year war was never about preserving democracy. Ukraine was and is one of the most corrupt countries in Europe. Zelensky is just another corrupt tyrant in the 31 year history of the country. Elections have been suspended. And oppression of the Russian minority continues.
Language inspectors in Ivano-Frankivsk (Western Ukraine) will start policing Ukrainians who speak Russian.
- This comes after banning political opposition, independent media, the Orthodox Church, books etc. Street names with Russian/Soviet names are replaced with fascists like Bandera who collaborated with Hitler.
- The US and EU support for de-Russifying Ukraine since 2014 is why millions of Ukrainians have become second-rate citizens, and this is sold as “pro-Ukrainian”.
- These are self-defeating policies by Kiev as the subsequent deep divisions in society reduces cohesion.
The key US objective was always to use Ukraine as a battering ram against Russia, although as Lindsey Graham stated, Ukraine is also sitting on a “gold mine” (10-12 trillions of minerals), making it the “best business partner” the US could ever dream of.…

Trump was impeached over Ukraine. The intel community has a vested interest in using Ukraine for a variety of purposes. What was the reason for 26 US funded bio labs? Who is profiting from the continuation of the war? What are the strategic US national interests involved?
And Russia has the nerve to accuse Ukraine of terrorism.
And there you have the real reason Putin, and only Putin, started this war. All the rest is just Russian propaganda to hide their greed.
