I’m pretty sure that Ford was probably built in Mexico or Canada.
I don’t think it matters where it was bought. With regards solely to the story, only an idiot would drive a self driving vehicle around foot traffic or heavy vehicle traffic, or anyplace else such as an open road.
The imperfection of the systems doing the self driving is a menace to public safety. The driver might have been hammered, but regardless, she would not have tried any hands free crap had she been in a conventional vehicle.
Sensors and artificial intelligence cannot compete with the ability of the human sensors and human mind to detect and instantly respond to a potential accident.

I went to a Ford dealership about a month ago to look at their Mavericks. I told the sales guy I was only interested in one built in the United States or Canada. No problem, the sales guy said. They’re all built in the United States.
I left him and went browsing the lot. Every Maverick there was built in Hermosillo, Mexico.
I cannot believe that a car salesman would lie. So I can only conclude that the United States has invaded and annexed Hermosillo.
The chebby I just bought was Hecho in Mexico
