At the time, I wasn’t aware of Wes’ pre-A&M stuff. A lot of people accused him of selling out.
I also didn’t know by that time he’d already passed, I was devastated when I found out. He was probably my first “guitar hero”, before I branched more into rock music.

Music of my era as well. Bosa Nova is still a favorite genre of mine.

BRAZIL 65 is still a great record, IMO better than 66.

It’s scary to read obituaries of people younger than me. Most of my friends already dead. I am going strong at 84.

RIP. Back in the mid 1980s as a teenager, I began discovering Mendes and Jobim and other Brazilian music (samba, etc). Have liked it since.

The Look of Love is the most famous song.
On a side note, I always thought Herb Albert was Mexican or Hispanic, but he is Eastern European Jewish.
Mendes was Brazilian.
Brazil 66 was very famous in the 60’s.

Kramer: Sergio Mendes has a cult following.
Newman: They follow him like a cult.
Kramer: He can’t even walk down the street in South America.

I loved that group and all their songs......Pretty World is stuck in my mind. Karen Philipp was my favorite of the girls.

In the last year or so, I’ve started listening to a lot of the music I grew up, before I became the typical teenage FM listener in the 70s.

BTW, Harrison Ford was the carpenter who designed and installed Mendes’ recording studio in his LA home.

I am really a big and pretty much ONLY rock n’ roll fan, but my father in law had the Brasil 66 album in his collection. When he passed away, I kept it, not knowing what it sounded like. Amazing. I think I’ll spin it again sometime very soon.
