A scathing obituary about a malignant Maine mother went viral Saturday, for both its brutal honesty and savage delivery.
Florence “Flo” Harrelson, 65, died back in February, but her obituary wasn’t published by the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel until Thursday.
That’s because Harrelson’s daughter, Christina Novak, who wrote the abrasive obituary, said she only learned her mom was dead this month. Novak noted in the obit that her mother, a former U.S. Marine who served as a Maine prison guard, died “on Feb. 22, 2024, without family by her side due to burnt bridges and a wake of destruction left in her path.”

Not always.
There are selfish, nasty, abusive, manipulative, lying skanks that breed.
I know of not one - but two - brutally abusive moms and dads among my childhood acquaintances.
One dad came in and beat his daughter right infront of me (slapping the plate out of her hands, slamming her head to the floor, and dragging her by her hair to the bed). Her mom allowed us to have a sleepover, both parents got plastered, and we were giggling softly in her bedroom while eating snacks, thereby irritating him. The mother sat back and let it happen. I was torn between wanting to leave and staying for my friend. My parents banned me from going over again and my father had a “talk” with her father.
The other “mother” used to substitute her daughters if she wasn’t in the mood (my younger sister learned this from the younger sister of my friend). The girls came in with bruises and excuses, until one day I saw the “mother” in action. One girl was beat so bad she had a permanent limp. The father was just as bad. The last time I hung out with my friend was when she was 12. We were on our bikes infront of the house and the father mauled his daughter. We weren’t doing anything wrong, just sitting on our bikes talking,, and he stormed out of the house and started wailing on her. I can still remember the sounds of her begging me not to leave. I was so horrified, I froze, until he turned on me.
I immediately went home to tell my parents. My father went to his house, shotgun in hand, and made it very clear that if that man so much as looked at me, my father would blow his head off.
None of these bastards deserved a glowing memorial.
You would think this kind of behavior would be found in a rough and tumble lower class neighborhood. Hardly. We were solid middle class and both of my parents were college educated.
I thank God daily that I had loving, intelligent, protective, firm, and godly parents.
Not everyone is that lucky.
Essentially they would have been strangers at this point. Looking at both of their photos they may both be damaged by all this. A tragedy all around.
Might be quite cathartic for others to see that they weren’t alone. Shining a little light on evil isn’t a bad thing.
And many of these abusive people become politicians.
Yes, and she needs to accept Jesus Christ as her lord and savior and invite Him into her heart and life before it’s too late.
sure you want to admit that? (:
People tend to not know or to ignore that part, the same with ‘husbands cherish your wives’ as the matching instruction ‘wives, submit to your husbands
verses’(paraphrasing).
But still doing that obituary is wrong regardless.
Dr. Ramani has videos on dealing with narcissistic abuse, including from parents. Much like exposing alcoholism, such abuse from narcissism and bipolar parents needs to be exposed.

Siht like this is why we have Bikers Against Child Abuse.
Yes, there is enough revealed in her piece she paid to have published to make casual comments about her action on our forum, you sure are, and in fact are making uninformed posts about members here while doing it.
Maybe Mother and Father skipped that part in the Bible about not provoking their children to wrath.
I don’t disagree, but this is not the way to deal with it.
My mom was hell on wheels in front of my friends and my boyfriend. I don’t love her. I don’t love my dad. They were pathetic parents. My dad had an epiphany of sorts and has tried to make it up to me. But they were nuts. Now that my mom has dementia, she has turned into a sweet little old lady. But I won’t ever feel close to her.
“How sharper than a serpent’s tooth it is to have a thankless child!”
Cheapshot, one side of the story
Maine not Marine.
I really like your dad.
May God give ease to the hearts of your friends and send His angels to dole out wrath to their abusers.
It could be one story or another; an spoiled brat child or an abusive, mentally unfit “devouring” mother.
