Not sure it’s “humiliating”. The most common jet shot down on both sides is the su-25. It’s a subsonic, very tough, ground attack jet, extremely similar (and some say superior to) the USA A-10 warthog.. (Reasonable minds differ in this regard; they both have advantages and disadvantages.)

Regardless, the jets, as cool as they are, are outmatched and just a flying target when confronting a sophisticated enemy with quality MANPADs and other air defenses. Still useful for killing Mohammedan savages, though.

That’s still some good shooting from a bloke on the ground. 4 more of these kills and he earns a Ground Ace medal? That would be something akin to a national hero I imagine. Has one person ever recorded 5 aircraft kills in this way?

Yeah, the Su-25 Frog Foot is is pretty awesome airplane and the Russian counterpart to the A10,

The Russians made a ton of them back in the 1970s and 1980s and both Russia and Ukraine have used them.

It's not the least bit shocking that 1970s vintage attack plane is getting shot down by a Stinger missile.
