Don't think so. There's no path for electricity to get to the pool itself.

I think they threw a submersible pump under the water and the wiring was bad. Something like this where the cord goes underwater.

I used these to get the water off the cover periodically.

I'm sure Superior makes a fine pump, just using this for an example.
