You can’t begin going through checkout without your card being scanned, so what’s the big deal?
Some people enter the store to steal... I suspect those are the people they’re trying to stop AND those are the people who are angry about not being let in.
Well then don’t shop there.
Personally I like it.
“I don’t know how or why you can buy anything if you are not a member.”
You can buy the majority of Costco items online without a membership. They charge a few percent surcharge for non-members. That’s what I do now. Wasn’t buying enough from the warehouse or gasoline to make the membership worthwhile.
Leave a review, add to the storm.
Your experience qualifies the reviews I read which drove me away.
If we had a normal functioning government, they wouldn’t get away with what they’re doing.
Good point.
The beauty of this system is COSTCO can have stores in blue hellhole cities and the decent people in those communities (of all colors) could have access to stores with fresh food and fair prices for other items.
Casual thieves aren’t going to pay a hundred bucks or so for a membership that could be revoked if they were caught stealing - even if the membership cost was refunded two months later...
It’s a win for communities that other stores can’t afford to do business in..
Some Costco employees were real nazis about masks not too long ago.
What goes around...
Many years ago, I walked into our Costco and an employee ran up and grabbed my arm and jerked me around, demanding to see my Costco membership card. He really hurt my arm. I pulled out my big knife and flipped it open. The dude backed up. I pulled out my Costco card and sliced it into tiny pieces and tossed them on the floor. Then I walked out. I’ve never gone into a Costco since.
So, what if I have to scan a card. I don’t want folks who aren’t paying their dues to get in. I can almost guarantee you it’s all these huge foreign families who are getting pissed because they can no longer feed a family of eight at Costco for $12 dollars.
There was a time when you only had to show it at the register and going out the door. You could go to the food court and feed a family of eight on the $1,50 hotdog combo for just over $12. $9 for a large pizza... Foreign families and welfare types loved it, and they didn’t have to buy a membership. The problem is, those families didn’t stick around and buy anything else, so now Costco has to think about raising the prices of their biggest lure to the store. Instead, they just started scanning at the door to keep those folks out and the card-carrying members coming back... so they can keep the food court prices the same. Seriously, going to the Costco near me on a Saturday looks like Mumbai or Punjab at the food court.
