Bush 41 did some things well. He destroyed Saddam's war machine in the Persian Gulf. Then we got the hell out after mission was accomplished.
His mistake was trying to balance the budget by raising taxes. So he lost the election.
He was a Country Club Republican who believed in serving his country.
Things were different back then.
He didn't even lose because of the taxes, or the economy, he lost because of Perot.

And every single thing that was done in Iraq was directly against our national interest. How many dead? How many maimed? How many families destroyed?
And for what?
After 9/11 the right thing to do would have been for Bush to call Saddam and say, "meet us in Riyadh, you can have the royals to do with as you wish, and let's split the oil!"

The rest of my post stands. 41 should have sent April Glaspie to tell Saddam, “Meet us in Riyadh, etc, etc”.
