Isn’t HIMARS overkill for a pontoon? Probably could have taken it out with a drone.

No. A pontoon bridge capable of bearing heavy vehicles is a very substantial item, made of steel and with each section weighing maybe 10 tons. And they are compartmented, so just punching a hole wont sink them. To destroy a pontoon segment you want a 105-155mm shell hit or something in that class.

One less HIMARS battery we can’t afford to replace and won’t have when China makes a play for Taiwan.

That was one expensive pontoon bridge.

When you get stuff for free you blow it indiscriminately
