When I was pregnant, I became particularly olfactory sensitive. I could not go near make up, certain shampoos, hair or nail salons, and a bunch of foods.

The smell made me want to hurl.

That sensitivity remained for at least two months after each of my children were born. It would receed, but to this day remains at an elevated level from what it was before I began having children.

I recognized it was part of my survival instincts, so I paid attention and avoided anything my nose rejected while I was pregnant.

I became chemically sensitive (MCS, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity) in 1994 after being heavily poisted by a pesticide a neighbor used. Since then I cannot tolerate any artificial fragrances at all without feeling sick, skin burning, digestive issues, sometimes breathing difficulty, etc. Or almost any petrochemical derived products. All artificial fragrances are manufactured from petrochemicals or coal tar.
