Halle Bery said in a video interview with Wired that Pierce Brosnan “restored” her faith in men during the making of their James Bond movie, 2002’s “Die Another Day.” The action film marked Brosnan’s final outing as 007 after a seven-year run that kicked off with 1995’s “GoldenEye.” Berry played Bond girl Jinx in the movie.
“He will always be my Bond, always,” Berry said when asked about her experience on the movie. “I’m a Pierce Brosnan fan. He restored my faith in men on that movie. There couldn’t be a human who is more of a gentleman than Pierce Brosnan.”
“Bond wasn’t on my wish list, no, not to be in one, but I loved the movies, always,” Berry continued. “Having been in one, I feel like I’m a part of cinematic history. … Those movies are iconic. They will forever be a part of our history, and I’m really honored to have been a part of one, especially with Pierce.”
Berry’s Jinx in “Die Another Day” proved to be such a fan favorite among Bond fans that franchise producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson started planning for Berry to get her own spinoff movie. But Variety reported in 2020: “The plan was foiled when MGM got cold feet about the film’s $80 million budget. That decision left Broccoli incensed. One of her main goals as steward of 007 has been to shake off some of the chauvinism that characterized Bond’s appearances in the novels and early films.”
“It was very disappointing,” Berry later told Variety about losing the Jinx movie. “It was ahead of its time. Nobody was ready to sink that kind of money into a Black female action star. They just weren’t sure of its value. That’s where we were then.”
Berry currently stars in the Netflix action movie “The Union” alongside Mark Wahlberg. Watch her Wired video interview in the post below.
She was smoking hot in that movie. It was so so.
“shake off some of the chauvinism that characterized Bond’s appearances in the novels and early films.”
And that’s how they ruin everything. They just can’t stop.
Is that the one with the invisible car? So stupid. Pierce did make a good Bond, however.
Makes you wonder how she was treated by her male co-stars on prior movies.
That's the reason we watched James Bond. Every guy wanted to be like 007.
In 2024? He's gay so no one wants to be like him.
What’s her point?
Wahlberg carried her in “Union”. She has no personality. Ridiculous hairstyle. Zero chemistry
That's a Harvey Weinstein issue.
Goldeneye, that was the best Pierce Brosnan Bond film.
He’s very likeable...I guess that’s why he’s a movie star.
I thought so too. His breakout of the Nork prison and then being dressed down by M for not just dying like a good Englishman was pretty hardcore.
From the article:
“Nobody was ready to sink that kind of money into a Black female action star.”
The first black female action star was Pam Grier in 1973. Maybe the studio didn’t think HALLE BERRY rated an 80 million dollar budget movie, but, no, it must be about race. And by the way, two years after the Bond movie she starred in “Cat Women” which, according to IMBD, had an estimated 100 million dollar budget. But racism.
Halle is a beautiful lady. Other than that, don’t know much about her.
That is good actually. Means she isn’t out there donning pussy hats and acting like an ass.
“Die Another Day” - the movie really didn’t do much for me
About the most interesting part was the ice hotel
Other than that, I’ve never understood the fascination with HB - she does absolutely nothing for me
I saw him in Las Vegas when he was doing Remington Steele. OMG - he would have stood out in a huge crowd of good looking men. Way better looking in person IMO. I got his autograph and then lost it. oh well.
Halle is related to Sarah Palin - a fact she thought was disgusting. I haven’t liked her that much ever since reading that.
The tank chase is the best part of the movie.
Lousy Bond flick and Berry while undeniably hot is a terrible actress. I guess Brosnan was gentlemanly not to point out her lack of thespian ability.
Agreed. Way better than any of the movies done by Daniel Craig. Only one that was somewhat good was Casino Royale. Others sucked.
Now that you mention that, very much.
