Ukraine's top commander said on Thursday Kyiv had set up a military commandant's office in the occupied part of Russia's Kursk region where he said his forces were still advancing, even as Moscow's troops stepped up its offensives in Ukraine's east.
The remarks by Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi were the strongest sign yet that Kyiv's forces plan to dig in after launching a lightning cross-border assault on Russia last week that has opened a new front in the 2-1/2 year-old all-out war.
"We are moving forward in Kursk region. A military commandant's office has been created which must ensure order and also all the needs of the local population," Syrskyi said in a written statement on his Telegram channel. The office would be headed by Major General Eduard Moskalyov, he said.

The New York Times writes that victory for Putin is now "definitely within reach."
"His [Putin's] latest peace proposal, under which Russia retains the occupied territories and Ukraine is banned from joining NATO, has been rejected by many Western leaders. However, in fact, this is the most realistic scenario for how this war will end," the newspaper writes.
That’s not to mention the grudgingly rosy picture it paints of Russia’s economic outlook:
Nor has the West managed to cut off the sources of Russia’s economic might, despite rounds of sanctions. The economy is growing healthily, and the assets of Russian oligarchs remain safe in the West, even if frozen. Most important, Russian oil is being bought and sold with minimal difficulty around the world as Western leaders can’t seem to decide what they want more: to meaningfully punish Russia or keep things as they are. Tellingly, the U.S. Treasury’s proposal to impose penalties on tankers that help Russian oil evade sanctions has stalled over the White House’s fear that higher gasoline prices won’t play well at the polls in November.
Looks like they are falling for the retreat feign.
Where’s Putin?
Putin MIA for more than two days…
“one-liner trolling”
Many more Ukrainians will die in the futile attempt to gain leverage for the inevitable negotiations that will end the conflict.
The Russians will respond to the escalation of the conflict. The Ukrainian move reeks of desperation. The extension of their supply lines into Russia makes no sense logistically. Their presence is unsustainable.
The Swedes couldn’t close the deal in 1709.
Napoleon tried and failed in 1812.
A swing and a miss for Hitler in 1941.
But, here we have it folks, Zelensky takes Moscow. Probably by Labor Day at this rate because, well, winter. Just ask Napoleon, whose clearly armchair-quarterbacking this one from heaven.
ZEEPER FOLLIES PINGLIST!(((PING!)))
“The extension of their supply lines into Russia makes no sense logistically.”
It reminds me of the German’s thrust towards Stalingrad. Their lines were overextended and the Russians launched a pincer move that entrapped the 6th Army.
Of course, there’s always the question of whether the Russians today could mount an offensive like Operation Uranus given their losses and command structure - but if I were the Ukrainians, I wouldn’t wanna find out the hard way.
The seige of Stalingrad lasted 900 days at a horrific cost of lives on both sides. My German father in law was killed outside Stalingrad. The Russians will dislodge Ukraine from its territory no matter what the cost.
Marcus has a one-track mind. He needs our prayers for his PDS (Putin Derangement Syndrome)!

Putin MIA for more than two days…

There was an assignation attempt on Putin, but sadly it failed.
UKR just cut the Russian rail lines which are used by Russian logistics - they are not set up to move supplies in bulk by any other means. They have few trucks and nothing like 18 wheelers, no pallets, no central system to track anything. Stuff tracked by paperwork through bureaucracies.
They should open a recruitment center and enlist the locals onto the UAF. Anything that will hasten Putin’s inevitable appointment with a lamppost and a rope.
