Thanks for the reminder about wifi calling. I’ve got an iPhone 12 and have it turned on (I’ve had it on as long as I can remember). Wifi reception throughout the house is good (the router/wifi access point) is near the ceiling of a central closet in our 1,600 sq ft single story house). I wonder why I have troubles with mobile reception in the house since I’ve got wifi calling turned on.
The ghost of little Eddie.....
They should all buy ELON MUSK’S, OWNER OF X, who just gave air time to the evyil Donalt J Trump, Starlink.
Let them know what it’s like having to use the products of a company ‘they’ hate for once.
It begs the question of why are there no cell towers serving the Hamptons? Could it be that the smug liberals are blocking them from being built in their backyard? I have adequate cell service at our cabin in northern Minnesota and even have fiber optic Internet even though we are some 20 miles from a city of moderate size and are located off a dirt road by a lake.
Starlink Mini will work flat on the back dash of a car and put up a 200 foot Wi-Fi bubble as long as it has 12V power. Later this year T-Mobile goes live with Starlink based direct to cell. Any of the higher end T-Mobile plans will then work anywhere in North America for first text, then calls then data. AT&T is partnered with AST mobile out of Midland Texas they have one sat up and have contracted with SpaceX to launch 600 more in the next few years. They have the largest phased array in LEO already proved 5G from space to unmodified Android phones. Dead zones will be a thing of the past by next year.
Im not 15 miles from a city of 8 million as we have piss poor cell coverage. It’s Wi-Fi calling or it goes right to voicemail on the inbound. Outbound connects about 1/3 of the time and when it does it’s all choppy. We installed Starlink and a outdoor Wi-Fi router it puts up a 1000 meter bubble so the whole property is covered now. No fiber here we have DSL which was dreadfully slow with AT&T, Hughes Net grrrr don’t even get started on that rubbish. fixed wireless by some small ISP they want you to buy their equipment and then data caps nope. Starlink changes the game it’s unlimited, and so far we haven’t been throttled even streaming multiple 4K streams. Which is the only real bandwidth user. Browsing is nothing same for Wi-Fi calls like 120kbs even WhatsApp is only 1.4Mbs for HD video calls.
I live in Chicago, and our house is a dead spot. I connect to the wifi and use it as often as possible.
Can’t they just do what everyone else does and install a cell tower?
I used to have one back when there was only one tower in my area, pointed at the highway (wrong way). Booster transamp in the basement with small pickup antenna and then the big highgain antenna in the attic pointed at the bad tower. It worked pretty well. Stopped using when they upgraded the tower and my subdivision for coverage.
Pay phones?
A lot depends on your location and signal strength you’re getting outdoors.
