Jesse Ventura looks back on his final days in WWE.
The Hall of Famer and former Governor of Minnesota famously departed the company back in 1990 after a dispute with Vince McMahon. During a recent interview with MSNBC, Ventura reminds the world that Hulk Hogan had ratted him out to McMahon when trying to form a wrestler’s union, which led to his eventual firing. He adds that he isn’t surprised to see Hogan now align politically with the Republican party.
"It doesn’t surprise me because when I was in wrestling in the 80s, I tried to unionize wrestling. It was Hulk Hogan who cut my legs out from under me. Hulk Hogan went to Vince McMahon, ratted me out, and subsequently, later on, cost me my job. It doesn’t surprise me to see Hogan with the Republicans because Hogan is as anti-union as you can get. There is still not a union in professional wrestling. The reason I tried to do it. I was in an elevator and ran into Gene Upshaw, the great guard from the Oakland Raiders. Big Gene raised his finger up and looked at me and said, ‘You boys need to form a union.’ I tried to do it and it was Hulk Hogan that ratted me out to Vince McMahon and subsequently I was fired and lost my job."
Ventura did return to WWE in 1999, making sporadic appearances since including at a recent Raw in Minnesota. In some backstage footage released by WWE Ventura could be seen speaking to CM Punk, stating that he came back because he knew things must have changed after Punk returned. Check out Ventura’s full interview below (in link).
“Wrestler’s union”: What a dumbass.
F-ing commie
Jesse doesn’t have time to bleed. Get him a feminine hygiene device.
“I don’t understand why million-dollar earners would need a union in the first place”
I’ll start off by stating I’m no fan of unions by any stretch but to try to answer your question, not all wrestlers are million dollar earners just like not all nfl players are.
We all know wrestling is entertainment and not really a competition but to do the things they do requires top level athleticism, which makes for a increased chance of injury.
A union could provide help in that circumstance.
Jesse has a few screws loose.
“We all know wrestling is entertainment and not really a competition...”
I’m go na piss off all the schmeat riding pro sports fans but I don’t give a rats @$$. Neither is NFL really a competition. It’s just a bunch of steroid abusing faggs playing grab ass for cash.
Jesse Ventura is a worthless so and so who deserted his country and moved to Mexico while suing a dead war hero’s widow. He needs to go back to Mexico and STFU!
Old story. Ventura wanted medical coverage for the wrestlers. McMahon refused.
And then the company became a billion dollar company and produced millionaire stars. Sounds like Vince made a sound decision.
Yes.. it was actually safer when they pretended wrestling was real... it was regulated by the athletic commission, had a ringside doctor and so forth...
Jesse is a poser. He was never a Navy Seal. In fact, there were no Navy Seals when he was in service.
Good. And let them buy there own folding chairs
Truth what you wrote. I don’t know what drugs they are testing for in the NFL, but those players are superhumans if they are toting 4% body fat, have stamina, are healthy, and look like they use Steroids. HGH, Steroids, taking something that masks it or the league is only worried if the players are using Coke, speed or smack.
Well now we know why Ventura came out for Harris—just another way of trying to get back at Hogan.
Nice reply, I remember when he fled the US for Mexico. GO BACK.
Ventura is an asshat. He sued Navy SEAL Kris Kyle’s widow for damages, claiming that Kyle had made false statements about him in his biography, despite the fact that Kyle never even mentioned Ventura’s name when describing the incident in the book. A jury initially awarded Ventura a large monetary sum, but Kyle’s estate appealed, and the monetary award was thrown out by the 8th Circuit Court.
Should be part of the Screen Actor's Guild since it's all staged.
