If they are this effective in this circumstance perhaps we Should be making more, for export use only, of course.
They are extremely effective, for a range of uses.
SAM suppression
Anti-radar and other SEAD jobs
Airfield attack
Counterbattery against towed artillery
Infantry in the open or in hasty entrenchments without overhead cover
Interdiction (as in this case)
They are not too useful vs targets in built up areas, armored vehicles, well-entrenched units with overhead cover, etc.
They are so useful that they were initially the sole munition of the MLRS (M270), the US Army/Marine standard artillery rocket system. HIMARS is just a lighter, more mobile version of MLRS.
I don’t think the longer range GPS guided missiles (GMLRS) have cluster warheads, just the old unguided types. If someone isn’t doing this they should.
There are GPS guided ATACMS with cluster warheads IIRC.
