The athletes are happy to go along with what the games have become.
The 20ish year old athletes are likely too busy training at 5am, controlling their diets, giving up large portions of their social lives, spending their childhoods traveling from event to event, rehabbing injuries, to think about it. Unless an athlete personally makes things political, like takes a knee during their anthem, they get a pass from me.

They’re too young to realize that they had been gifted with more efficient physical attributes than most. They sure spent the time and effort to refine certain physical activities such that hey could complete against others of the same bent. Plenty of other people have the same discipline but don’t get all expense paid trips to foreign lands to compete at their skills.
Bottom line: so what? The games are dead. Killed by avarice , commercialism, and irrelevance. Long live the games.
