—”Will there be a GM to honor the warranty in 5 years?”

BINGO!!!
WE HAVE BINGO!!!!

Over 100 replies and it finally came out!

Could easily have GM in name only.
A bankruptcy judge forgives GM of all past sins, then says sin no more!

The new and improved GM has no obligations to the past.
Except for a few, but not all union members pensions.

Ask someone who worked for Delphi (GM), 0bama screwed them, BIGGLY.

—”It is called AFM - Active Fuel Management”

An AFM tale of woe, from early AFM use.

A guy I worked with, was a Caddy man, and every other year a new one...

And then he bought a Caddy 8-6-4, he loved it, for a year or so and planned to keep this one longer! The best car he ever owned...

Then one day he did not come in to work and did not call; this never happened before.

His beloved 8-6-4 died coming into work, this was before cellphones. It took hours to get a hook.

On the way home in the dealer loaner he spotted an Audi dealer and selected a new Audi.

An interesting side note, he had a service that would come to the car for routine maintenance/ trailer for technical work.
He claimed this cost less than the dealer and less hassle.
When the 60 Minutes BS Audi story came out, he scooped up one for his wife and one for his daughter on the cheap.

“and not enough oil gets to the pistons and lifters and camshaft”

Given that oil flow was not altered, please explain.

“The next year model did a random shutdown of 4 cyls “

The next year they replaced the engine with a different model. Existing owners deactivated the system.

I got to your post via another citing the 1981 V8-6-4 so that is the reference to my posts.

In 2004 Gen 2 was introduced on several models that used oil pressure for valve modulation.

I don’t see any references to reliability problems although they did move to a “Dynamic” system a few years later.

“Once time our van went into “limp mode” (wouldn’t go faster than about 35mph). Turns out all that was wrong is the transmission software needed an update.”

Sounds like there was a problem that was fixed by an update.

This thread gives me the opportunity to vent on something that has happened with my vehicle lately. I have a Honda 2021 HRV, (hopefully the last vehicle I will ever need). Had a 'recall' for a problem with the viewing screen causing the screen to not boot up, and they were concerned the rear window backup screen would not be available. Actually, it did happen, the screen didn't boot up, so I didn't have the backup camera view, and I couldn't access the radio.

Yawn, I drove the car anyway, as I don't really need the rearview backup camera. (I did miss having the radio lol)

I did eventually take it in for oil change, and they did the 'update'. THEN a few months later I get ANOTHER recall letter saying the update needs an update!! They can sit on it! Not gonna do this stupid constant update thing.

I figure it's not really about what they say it's about. Prolly checking my 'black box' or sumpin.
