The Soviets learned the hard way that dictating every last detail of the economy from a few office buildings doesn’t work. The marxists of today want to delegate that chore to a computer. A few old Star-Treks come to mind.

Actually, the most comparable SciFi story would be the last chapter of Asimov’s I, Robot (the book). Those AI brains running the world economy were (somewhat) benevolent.
