A rangefinder is a handheld laser device used by long distance hunters and competition if allowed to get range to a target within a few inches or feet. The higher end ones even do inclination and azimuth which for really long distance the earth’s rotation matters. There is only one purpose for that device it should have been seen as a imminent threat.

Range finders are very easy to get too. Most golfers carry one in their golf bags, I have one in mine myself.
Golf range finders are a completely different animal than high end Sig Sauer ones I have a Sig that will do nonreflective at 1000 meters no golf ranger is doing that. It also does inclination and azimuth. Some of the Sig Sauer ones cost more than most rifles in the retail stores. But the guys using those are all driving custom rigs that start in the ten thousand range not including the glass on top. Think 338 Lapua or 50bmg. The little handheld devices all look mostly the same it’s the spotter scope sized tripod mounted ones that are $$$

I already thought this whole thing was unbelievably terrible, but now we find it’s apparently WAY worse than I even imagined. If this account is accurate, then we’ve blown permanently past incompetence and fully into the realm of intentional government plot. Another story earlier in the day had said the building was a staging area for “police.” If, as now appears to be the case, it was Secret Service snipers who were “staging” inside it, what on Earth were they staging for? The President was already on stage. If they were inside a building then they were of zero value and served no purpose at all by even being there. And they allegedly encountered the shooter as well, and saw him with a rangefinder, but didn’t detain him and investigate? No average person off the street is that incompetent, much less a highly-trained Secret Service agent.
If this is true, it was a planned hit by the Biden administration, end of story.
One of the most ridiculous statements I have heard thrown around is that the SS cannot fire until suspect fired first.

A real hit would have used a 6.5 mm or better with 16x or better optics at 150 yards there’s no way to miss with that level of equipment. I could hand my AR10 6.5 to anyone off the street and they could pop tennis balls at twice that distance off the bipod first try every try it’s point and click then pop. You would think if it’s a sanctioned hit they would use the right equipment. Given that it is a kid with a reddot 223 that screams deranged idiot and gross incompetence he ever got on the roof in the first place.
The intital sightings of this guy were well before Trump went on stage.
They could easily just delayed the start until they sorted things out. Using a range finder is kind of ominous.
