
Wheels coming off of vehicles on the road is far more common these days. As an OTR truck driver, I saw that happen probably a dozen times a year. And while it does happen to big trucks, it’s rare. People wanting their car or pickup to look ‘cool’, are becoming an increasingly dangerous issue on the roads. They want their tires to stick out beyond the fenders by wheels with more offset, which puts stress on the wheel bearings and lugnuts.
Insurance companies need to make it clear that they will refuse to insure, or declare an insurance policy invalid, on vehicles that have after market wheels that are not the same offset dish as stock rims.
