Most of these scammers are located in India, Pakistan, or Nigeria. They will never be caught. However, the scammer will sometimes use an American “money mule” is an intermediary to pass the money along.

It’s possible to locate the money mule. But sometimes he is actually an innocent dupe who thinks he’s doing a legitimate “work from home” job.

The government isn’t doing near enough to warn folks about these scams. There should be public service ads on the radio and on TV. And maybe even put fliers in government mail.

That should help, at least a little.

They convinced an 80yo I know that hackers were using her laptop to traffic child pornography and the teller at the bank literally had to rip the phone out of her hands when she attempted to make a withdrawal to "protect" her money. She cried for days.
