I went to graduate school in the 1980s. When the FBI came on campus to recruit, the local student gay club protested, because the FBI had a policy of not hiring homosexuals.

The FBI said that homosexuals were a security risk because they could be blackmailed, even if they were open homosexuals.

Ed Meese defended that policy.

The FBI and Justice Dept were explicit -- Homosexuals Need Not Apply.

Yes, things changed drastically in the Gay Nineties.
