And stands of trees often have to be cleared to do it. Green spaces keep getting paved or built over with little though or planning for ecological or social consequences. Just saying.
We love making the turn on the 5 freeway into the San Francisco area in the summer - up the 5 corridor during that time it is often over 110 passing through Patterson and Firebaugh - dogs won’t get out of the car at the rest stop.
We hit SF and it’s 65 and blissfully foggy, pure heaven after the extreme heat. Just make sure you have a place to park your car - people from inland areas pile into SF during the weekend to get out of the extreme inland heat.

My truck has 460 air conditioning, but that’s the size of the engine driving the compressor.
As to registering temp at airports — that is why all temp measurements are crappola. Have been for years.
A couple of years ago a study was published about the thermometers used to measure temp for use in this sort of stuff. There were (& are) rules on where the thermometers can be placed. They include:
*300 yards from anything that could block free flow of air — like buildings and lines of trees
* not in amongst buildings that trap/generate heat.
Basically, these thermometers are supposed to measure temp of air moving across the planet — not stagnated air trapped in an alleyway.
96% of thermometers were inappropriately placed. So much so that almost all measure temps heavily biased towards high readings — like several degrees. This was pointed out years ago and there has been no effort to fix.

All our weather monitors were removed from the airport 30 years ago because of the skewed too warm readings.

Ever wonder why Ancient Egyptians went around naked? It gets 120 in Egypt! At that temperature—naked isn’t sexy, its just terrible. Most people just kept cool as best they could. The rich all had swimming pools.

But the proportion of impermeable surfaces at airports has changed significantly in 100 years.
Urban heat islands are a significant contributor to higher temperature data.
I’d like to see data that excludes airports, urban, rooftop, and parking lot WX station data.
It might help everyone understand the truth.
Just remember, for practical everyday use, place the thermometer in the shade.
Warming out of the last ice age has been happening for more than 12,000 years. It is natural. If every country on Earth confiscated every penny beyond bare subsistence from every person and spent it all on “climate”, they couldn't affect the global temperature by one degree or the sea levels by an inch.
Because all the paving retains heat and allows them to lie about it.
