In August of 2020, I was checked into the ICU after having a mystery illness. I thought for sure it would be my liver after years of being a beer-aholic. After 3 days of IVs, the lead doctor gave me the bad news. I first asked, "Let me guess. My liver is failing." He replied, "We tested for that and your liver is in excellent shape. In fact, you could donate a portion of it if you wanted to."

The beer and poor eating affected my blood pressure. I've been healthy ever since. I hope that if you are reading this and you drink, that you stay on your blood tests and blood pressure cuffs!

I used to drink a glass of red wine every night before dinner. It caused my blood pressure to go up for quite awhile. ThenI I switched to beer, half a can every night, and my blood pressure is fine. I’m a small woman, so I think a large man could drink at least one can every night.

I come from a family of alcoholics, and they basically hate me for having that glass of beer and quitting.
