My sister and brother-in-law lived in Germany for many years, he was a civilian NATO employee.

Their house was one of the few with a landline, the wait time was YEARS for a phone line.

His boss, the base Commander was on the wait list, they enjoyed telling him he could use their phone in an emergency.

Cell phones have become very popular in Germany for some reason.

What’s interesting is that Deutsche Telekom is T-Mobile’s (Sprint’s successor) controlling shareholder. And T-Mobile is arguably the most dynamic of the Big 3. Of course DT is perhaps a big upgrade over Deutsche Bundespost, which broke up around the same time as AT&T.
