That’s crazy to fly on a Soviet plane.
I flew from East Berlin to Moscow on Interflug, the East German airline, and flew back from Leningrad on Aeroflot. Both used Il-18’s, and both were just as Spartan. The dinner on the flight to Moscow consisted of cold beef and bread served on a metal tray, kind of like those found in high school cafeterias. But on the return trip, breakfast consisted of hard boiled eggs with caviar, which I thought was a treat.
I found out later that the reason that conditions on Soviet airliners were so spartan was so that they could be quickly converted to military use if necessary.
