The same guy who started “Bob’s Surplus Store” (later Bob’s Stores) also founded Bob’s Discount Furniture, which is now a nationwide going concern.
Bob’s Surplus was build largely on heavy radio advertising, and I can still remember the catchy jingle,
“looking good isn’t spending more. Looking good at Bob’s Surplus Store.”
I suspect this is yet another victim of Internet shopping expansion, not because it happened to be founded in Connecticut. Retail outlets come and go. Subway is also founded in Connecticut, and they aren’t going anywhere, despite hiring Megan Rapinoe.
