My parents were together 55 years. Mom died and Dad followed just 6 months later.
My paternal grandparents were married over 70 years. Grandma went in to the hospital, Grandpa begged her to come home. He was later admitted and died; she came out and lived another year before passing. They were in their 90s.
When you spend so much of your life with someone you truly love, the loss and loneliness can be devastating.
But to go by suicide? That’s a sin.
May they rest in peace.
Mine were much the same. Mom died a few months after Dad after 58 years married. The hospice nurse was trained to ask probing questions to see if the patient is afraid of dying.
“Do you believe you will see your husband again?” she asked.
“Depends it it's a nice day,” my mom replied.
“Why is that?” the nurse asked.
“If it's a nice day, he'll be playing golf.”
