Also, I forgot to mention that Lincoln urged all his Republicans to vote for the Corwin Amendment in March of 1861, and he wrote letters to all the state's governors urging them to pass this amendment. Both the House and Senate voted by a 2/3rds margin to approve the Corwin Amendment. 5 Northern states ratified it.

The Amendment guaranteed legal slavery indefinitely.

The 1860 Republicans were not against slavery, they were against losing all the money they were making from it.
