The “narrative” at the time was that Beseda told Putin that the Ukrainians would welcome the Russians as liberators, and that he had agents in place in Ukraine, with secret stores of fuel, food, and ammunition, for which Russia had paid billions of dollars. In fact, Beseda had merely padded his Swiss bank account, and had neither agents nor supplies in place, and the very last thing the Ukrainians looked on the Russians as was liberators.
The report of the 70-year old Beseda being arrested and now replaced comes from a Russian source. It is unlikely to be Ukrainian propaganda. Putin never would have initiated the latest war if he had had any idea how it was going to turn out. His, and other Russian officials’ intemperate statements have stampeded Finland and Sweden in NATO after seventy years of strict neutrality. That is not Ukrainian propaganda, it is simply facts on the ground.
Putin screwed the pooch. But he had help from his “intelligence” agencies. Russian intelligence agencies may be as screwed up as the CIA.
