Yup. I use Dawn and make it fairly strong.
That said, I try to avoid pesticides and for the last few weeks have had a jar of soapy water to knock bugs into. I've eliminated most of the asparagus beetles that way and the get the eggs off the plants too, so they don't make more adults.
It sounds like squash bugs. There are several different kinds that attack squash.
