I went on the Sound of Music bus tour in Austria. Very nice - but the actual geography made it impossible for the Trapp family to get to Switzerland as the movie depicts. But still my favorite movie also!

7 yr old grand daughter was very interested in their story. It also brought the opportunity to share their Great Grandfather’s WWII service…. Radioman on B17, shot down on their last mission over Swiss territory…prisoner of war…escaped and fought with the free French. She was highly interested in his story after seeing Sound of Music.

Went as well, in 1989. Those hills they climbed would have put them in Germany...Ha!!

That’s because, other than names, and some very broad outlines, the movie has nothing to do with the actual facts (like most movies). It’s a magnificent movie though, which I recommend to anyone.
