Talking last night with fellow cyclists about how we are less inclined to ride on the road these days. Many motorists think bike belong trails anyhow, but then you have situations like this. If I nearly hit someone’s child I’d be upset too - but mostly out of fear and Adrenalin than any feeling of entitlement. Hard enough to anticipate the actions of adults with their hearing blocked by headphones or ear buds, much less those of a 3year-old.

I have encountered out-of-control kids on the trails before when mountain biking and it scares the hell out of me. Particularly when you're in a remote area and never expect to see people.

I don't think people with kids realize how dangerous it is to let really young kids run on down the trail in remote areas. There are animals out there that will take a kid. I have seen coyotes in my own backyard. Though I live in a town of 40,000, my property backs up to a wetland/forest area.
