Apple Stock Dips As OpenAI Deal Prompts iPhone Threat From Elon Musk
Forbes ^ | Peter Cohan

Apple’s efforts to narrow its artificial intelligence gap with rivals by partnering with OpenAI did little to move Wall Street. The iPhone maker’s stock price fell about 2% in Monday after-hours trading.

...

Apple’s deal with OpenAI has enraged Elon Musk, who threatened to ban Apple devices from his companies — namely Tesla, SpaceX, and X. Why? On June 10 Musk called the Apple/OpenAI deal “an unacceptable security violation,” CNBC reported.

This is good. A lot of people complain about the big tech companies, but almost nobody is willing to "Bud Light" them. I'd love to see people get with it and do a "Bud Light"'ing of big tech.

I would also love to see Elon Musk initiate the creation of his own Linux distro and see how many people follow him off of these big tech platforms. We really need more people to embrace little tech, which means we probably need a leader that people can identify with.

I wish Tesla would get into hybrids. Even make a really good ICE vehicle.

I would absolutely consider a phone from one of Elon Musk’s companies, especially if it not constantly collect data about my traveling and then sell it to marketers.

I use an iPhone 15 but I’m not married to Apple Products and would have no issue giving them up for a suitable alternative.

Musk is just being Musk, going off half-cocked. At this point, he has no idea how Apple is implementing AI. Since Apple has been far more secure with privacy and data protection than competing products, it’s likely that will continue.

Musk on the other hand has his own AI company, xAI. And not only is he collaborating with the same AI company Apple is using (OpenAI), but also with Google. The same Google that is notoriously horrible with people’s privacy. And he wants to produce a phone, the Tesla Pi. So he is a direct competitor with Apple in the AI arena...

I understand that Musk is planning on getting his Boring company to dig a plethora of tunnels under the Earth. These tunnels will host hyperloops that will be able to transmit packets of information across the country at phenomenal speeds.

The entire project will be powered by Solar City by day and an enormous battery Wall charged during the day and discharged at night.

If it works on Earth, then Musk will create an equivalent system when he builds in city on Mars.

Wow the folks who sold Apple last night in after hours are kicking themselves in the butt now. The current crop of writers at Forbes and similar media are financial idiots and, like other recent journalism graduates, totally lacking in the ability to do good writing and research.

Musk is just jealous.

Actually, he's angry with OpenAI, which he co-founded. He tried to merge OpenAI with Tesla, and when he didn't get his way, left the company. He continued to collaborate with them and eventually opened his own AI company, xAI. He's suing OpenAI now, and is essentially at war with them. OpenAI joining with Microsoft, and now Apple, is a big hit to his plans to be a big player in AI. His tweets were little more than a temper tantrum. And I say that as a fan of his.
