When I was about 14 the author made a campaign appearance a few blocks from my house when he was running for Senator from New York. I was standing at one of the barricades, trying to shake his hand, but he bypassed me, but at least I made eye contact. He began his speech by saying, “It would be great if most of you were old enough to vote for me.” < audience laughs> Voting age was 21 at the time.
