I noticed about thirty years ago that a new style of hat was on the market. It had a FLAT front and back brim. To us, any good quality hat with a flat front and back meant the wearer did not know how to store his hat properly.

When I bought a straw hat, the first thing I did before leaving the store was rebend the wire in the brim to remove the flats.
