Josh Maravich, the son of the Hall of Famer "Pistol" Pete, died last week. He was 42. Josh, like his father, played basketball at LSU – he didn't quite have his father's stardom, playing in only 13 games. However, it was a childhood dream for him to play at the arena that bears his father's name.
"I wanted to come here for my dad to make him proud," Josh said in a 2005 article in the LSU school paper, The Daily Reveille, per the university's site. "I knew I wasn’t going to be a star player, but for me being a walk-on was what I always wanted to do."
The school said he died in his family's home in Covington, Louisiana. Pistol Pete was back in the news earlier this year, as Caitlin Clark surpassed his NCAA record for the most points ever scored by a college basketball player.

Pistol Pete was a Christian and I believe God’s promise that his household including Josh is saved. See you in Heaven, guys.
Some journalism. What did he die from?
No cause of death has been released.
Meaningless. Pete played against men.
There is a story about pistol Pete coming up on tv- can’t wait to see it- he was a magician on the court it is said. Many pros talked very highly of his skills.
Bob Cousey was a pretty decent player too- lots of really good players really, but some just really excelled- Larry Bird was so good that he played almost a whole game with his left hand just for fun
Also, Pistol Pete played only three years and there were no 3 point shots.
“Some journalism. What did he die from?”
Sometimes the family does not disclose the reason. Common courtesy is not to pry.
42 years-old. Way too young. Pete Maravich died at age 40.
Suddenly.
So foolish.
People instantly think suicide or accidental overdose.
It is identical to MSM crime reporting...
No mug shot photos or names or witness descriptions?
Obviously, non-white perpetrators.
Not our family. Not our business the way I see it.
Likely the same congenital heart defect that his father had.
It's a Big World, Nittany.
Plenty of room for different opinions.
The unasked and unanswered question once again remains.
Vaxed?
I believe and this is just a guess, that he may have had the same congenital health problem that his father had. Which I believe was cardiac related
Pete Maravich had a defective heart valve as I remember. It could have acted up at any time in his life so he hade it to 40. It may run in the family.
They didnt release the cause.
The heart problem that killed his dad could be genetic. That would be a good guess.
It’s not our business.
“Pete played against men.”
But not against black men in the NCAA due to segregation.
