Garland’s Moment of Truth: With the Perjury Referral, the Attorney General Faces a Clear Choice Between Principle and Politics
Jonathan Turley ^

Posted on 06/07/2024 1:15:34 PM PDT by Tench_Coxe

For each of us, there often comes a moment when our principles are put to an undeniable and unavoidable test. It may be as simple as cheating on a test, shoplifting a product, or admitting to a wrong. It is natural to want to avoid such moments, particularly when we cannot even admit to ourselves that we may not be the person we have long claimed to be.

For Attorney General Merrick Garland, that moment of truth has finally arrived. Garland has long maintained that he is an apolitical attorney general who does not even consider the political consequences of his actions. Over the last three years, some of us have questioned that commitment in a series of actions or, more importantly, non-actions. Yet, Garland has always been able to evade responsibility by shifting decision-making to others or claiming a lack of knowledge.

The assumption is that Garland has a conscience. I would argue that assumption as faulty.

You’re right. Garland and the rest of them have as much conscience as a hyena.

Garland’s contempt for the founding principles of this nation far outweigh his conscience.

From the article:

I [Turley] believed his [Garland's] claim that he would not allow political considerations to cloud his judgment.

Most of us FReepers never believed that for a nanosecond. Like Janet Reno and Eric Holder before him, Garland was chosen for AG precisely because political considerations would guide his judgement.

‘I supported his appointment as Attorney General because I respected his integrity and intellect as a federal judge”

Garland was, is, and will always be nothing but a political hooor.
That Turkey sidesteps his own bad judgement is disappointing.

The assumption is that Garland has a conscience. I would argue that assumption as faulty.

And principles.

We also tend to assume Turley has a backbone as well as a voice.

I am not feeling kindly toward commentators these days. Talk is cheap. In fact, he gets paid for his. But what will he do when the government tells him to shut up or else?

It's coming.

All the novel ways they went after Trump, his lawyers and appointed officials, and the speed in which they did it...

Are these lawfare chickens FINALLY going to come home to roost?

Johnathan Turley is a rare liberal. He is a constitutionalist and calls balls and strikes like he sees them, not based on his liberal beliefs. If I were a criminal and in court I would not want Turley as my judge. He will call it justly. If I were in court but innocent, I would want Turley as the judge. He will rule justly not politically. Much the same can be said of Alan Desroshowitz.

God must be punishing America for its sins, because Democrats are not held accountable for all of their crimes. There is no justice in the United States anymore. Democrats are breaking the law repeatedly and nothing happens. If you have a Republican they are instantly tried, convicted and jailed without delay. In President Trump’s case he is innocent and guilty of nothing and the democrats and leftist officials in the justice system lie and falsify the law to use a weapon against him. Why does our Lord the ultimate Judge allow this to happen? I pray every day for truth and justice and until All of America repents and calls on God nothing will change unless Trump wins the election in November. Lord have mercy and hear our cries for justice and defeat the evil people in power oppressing this nation.

Past behavior is the best predictor of future conduct. The past behavior of AG Garland shows he has no principles beyond political expediency.

Garland is obviously a hardcore Obamaist communist, down with the Revolution.

They tried to get him on The Supreme Court but couldn’t, so they made him AG.

Everything he does is political.

He’ll need to hire another unauthorized special prosecutor to ensure that he is doubly-not-influenced by political considerations.
