“What makes you think he wasn’t serving an already overly seasoned soup just to reinforce the reject’s mistake in presuming things?”

My mom thought my sister salted her food way too much. I think sis was back from college and mom gave her something to eat - probably a bowl of soup?

Sis grabs the salt shaker.

“Oh - you should taste the soup first. I know you like your food salty so I added some extra.”

Sis ignored her and showered the soup with salt.

She took one sip of the soup and spit it out. Mom had dumped maybe a half a cup of salt in her bowl of soup.

I doubt that changed my sister’s habits, but I suppose it made my mom feel better. In spite of the wasted bowl of soup.

The soup question goes to the very heart of science. Looking at the existing data and coming up with a theory or solution.

People used to switch the sugar and salt in the shakers at restaurants.
