Top officials in Russia have raised concerns about Kremlin moves to nationalize companies and an overheated economy in rare rebukes of Vladimir Putin's economic policy.
On Tuesday, Herman Gref, the CEO of Russia's largest bank, Sberbank, warned about the negative effects of high state spending on the military to fund the war in Ukraine. "Our economy is definitely overheated," Gref told the Federation Council, Russia's upper house, on Tuesday, according to the Tass news agency.
The next day, questions were raised about a Kremlin policy of forced nationalizations since the start of Putin's full-scale invasion, which has been followed by many foreign companies leaving the country. In the first two years of the war, 180 private companies have come under state control as of March 2024, according to Novaya Gazeta Europe, a Latvia-based independent Russian newspaper.
In May, a court ordered the assets of pasta manufacturer Makfa Group to be handed the Russian state. In December 2023, a majority stake in strategic metals firm Solikamsk Magnesium Plant was transferred from its private owners to the state's nuclear energy company.

JUNE 5, 2024
U.S. reconnaissance drone has gone missing while on patrol over the Black Sea and neither Russian officials nor flight tracking services have come up with explanations.
Knewz.com has learned that the RQ-4B Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), was last seen on May 26, near the Russian resort town of Sochi.
The first to pick up on the alleged anomaly was Russian publication, RIA Novosti. Citing data from flight tracking resource, FlightRadar24, it noted that the aircraft was last seen 155 miles from the bay of Yalta on the Black Sea.
The drone allegedly started its mysterious journey on Tuesday, June 4, at the NATO air base in Sigonella, Italy. It then flew through Bulgaria to its area of patrol on the coast of Crimea. According to the RIA, it was at this point the craft’s identification tag disappeared.

The Kremlin has relocated some of its Black Sea assets from the peninsula further east to its Novorossiysk base, in Russia's Krasnodar region further from Ukraine's coastline.
Russia is also thought to be establishing another Black Sea base in Abkhazia, a breakaway region internationally recognized as part of Georgia. This would move Russia's resources in the Black Sea even further away from Ukraine's reach.

The Russian port of Novorossiysk, which has become an important base for the Black Sea Fleet after repeated attacks on its traditional HQ in Crimea, has been targeted by Ukrainian drones.
This attacks follows previous reports by the UK Ministry of Defence indicating that Russia has been bolstering defenses at the Novorossiysk port to protect its Black Sea Fleet from potential Ukrainian attacks.

Ukraine's Maritime Drones Make Waves with Precision Strike on Russian Tugboat in Black SeaStory by Isaac Jones • 1d •
The operation, occurring in the waters of Lake Panske—an area adjoined to the Black Sea—marked the latest in Ukraine’s strategic use of drones against Russian maritime assets. Such vessels, though not frontline combat ships, serve critical logistical and support roles, indicating Ukraine’s nuanced understanding of disrupting enemy supply lines.
If they had not said it, I never would have known that Russian tug boats are not front line combat ships.
