Autistic teen was tied down, taunted by cops while he begged for help before death, disturbing video shows

An autistic teen from Ohio was forcibly restrained, taunted and manhandled by police while he begged them for help days before he died from a head injury, footage has revealed.

Isaiah Trammell, 19, was arrested in the early hours of March 13, 2023, following a mental health episode, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

When authorities arrived at Trammell’s home in Lebanon, they found an outstanding warrant for a misdemeanor domestic violence offense, and took the teen into custody around 1 a.m., the outlet reported.

Over the next 10 hours, Trammell — who had autism spectrum disorder — was denied repeated requests for a phone call, his medication and even a blanket, troubling footage from inside the Montgomery County Jail revealed.

“Please let’s talk about this,” Trammell could be heard begging five sheriff’s deputies as they pinned him to the floor of his cell.

“No, there’s no talking,” one deputy snapped as they strapped him into a restraint chair.

Trammell was restrained twice during his jail stint — including one stretch for more than two hours, which is over the time limit set by Ohio law, the Dispatch noted.

Shortly after he was booked, Trammell told the deputies that he wanted to die, and he was placed on suicide watch with a harm-proof blanket in a cell by himself.

“He hated his body to be exposed and he kept telling them. He hated to be confined. Absolutely that would trigger him,” Trammell’s mom, Brandy Abner, told the Dispatch.

The buildup of stress saw Trammell start banging his head, the footage showed.

Head-banging is a common stim, or self-soothing behavior, in those with autism, the Dispatch explained. In the past, Trammell’s loved ones did their best to keep him physically safe while he worked through his emotions.

Saw the video. My long years working in a big city ER gives me at least some knowledge in such matters. My first thought was “more proof that the plan to shut down two-thirds of the nation's psychiatric beds was a very bad idea.

Wait, he died of self-inflected blunt force trauma. It’s possible but you are going to need do a little more documentation on that one.

Didn't look at the OP, did you? Justify what happened. And with what turns out to be total immunity from prosecution, they won't even get their badge and LEO certification pulled.

Known too many thugs in blue. And the sad part is the Thin Blue Line syndrome tends to protect the thugs, even when good LEOs won't trust them.

Here in the Portland area, the PPD chased out all the good cops. They took early retirement, or moved to suburban PDs in the Portland/Vancouver area. They would be the first to admit that it's easy to get an "Us vs Them" attitude, particularly when the city government is fishing for votes from the cartels and street gangs.

The Portland PD is 300 short of minimal staffing. Most neighborhoods don't even get a daily drive thru. Last year, the Urban Gang Unit consisted of one man at a desk.

Last week, a new DA won the primary, on a rebuild the PD platform, sh!tcanning Dan Schmitt, who bragged that he was Antifa. Now, who are those new recruits going to be? Psycho, badge heavy dregs, in black ninja pants, with sap gloves, itching to get their gun off.

Go ahead. Deny it.

Thank you very much for this explanation. I had no clue about the background of the changed regulations with regard to institutionalization of patients with mental issues.

Neither did I know about what happened to Rosie Kennedy 🙁 May this poor woman rest in peace with the angels 😇
