The Carolina Panthers and the City of Charlotte have proposed a partnership deal that would include an $800 million renovation to Bank of America Stadium and keep the NFL team there for 20 years.
The renovation would include a fixed $650 million investment from the city and another $150 million from Panthers owner David Tepper.
Tepper has already invested more than $117 million in the stadium prior to June and would also pay another $421 million in potential overages for capital improvements over the term of the deal, the team said Monday in a news release.
The city’s investment does not require any new or increased taxes.
Charlotte City Council members are expected to meet over the next several weeks to discuss the Bank of America Stadium renovation project.
"Bank of America Stadium has been a special place for our Panthers, and now Charlotte FC, fans for nearly 30 years," Panthers team president Kristi Coleman said in the release. "While Bank of America Stadium has solid infrastructure, investments are needed to ensure that our decades-old venue continues to deliver the best experience for our players, fans, and community."

“According to Forbes, Tepper has a net worth of $16.7 billion, as of 2022.”
You don’t get that rich spending your own money.
In other words, the city could REDUCE taxes by $650 million if they don't "invest" in the stadium. Where are they keeping this $650 million horde of cash?
Does anybody know of any city that hasn’t lost big money supporting a major league sports team? Anybody? Bueller?
As a Charlottean, let me be the first to say “Go diddle yourself”.
Please support this renovation. NC desperately needs a team that chokes constantly and loses 10 games a year...
OF COURSE THEY DON'T HAVE TO RAISE TAXES...THEY JUST DID THAT THIS YEAR AND MINE WENT UP $1000! YES I'M SCREAMING!
Beers will now $32.
I went to Fenway for a Sox game a couple weeks ago. $12 for a Coors Light. $16 for a Sam Summer.
The little people get screwed once again...
Bank of America Stadium? LOL!
Where does the city get that kind of money?
Up here in Virginia, Yoonkin tried to ram though one of these huge graft projects. Special taxing authority...ect...
Simply disgusting to see my Republican Governor support this non-governmental function.
How could something cost so much?
650 Million from the surfs plus 150 Million + Another $127 owner already spent (Yeah right)
Payoffs and backroom deals and lots of political contributions.
Sure does add up quick.
Throw in some union money too to juice the pot.
Special LGBTQ+ section will be build due to public funds!!!
What’s so drastically wrong with that stadium that it needs over 660 large to update it? For a freakin 3-4 hour football game?
Unbelievable.
I took my son to the Dodgers - Braves game in LA about three weeks ago. Bought very good seats behind home plate a bit toward first base. INSANE prices on StubHub. The worst part was StubHub asked “Do you want parking with that?” So I bought a parking pass. We got to the parking garage and the woman attendant had never heard of StubHub or prepaying for parking. She had no way to take our prepaid pass. The machine wouldn’t accept our pass. She called her supervisor who had never heard of pre-paid parking via StubHub in their lot. Absolute scam artist selling non-existent parking! Had Visa stop payment and they refunded my money.
It's a nice stadium. So it does not really need to be renovated.
Just say NO.
Here in Cleveland, they want 1 billion for renovation from the taxpayers. A second choice is a new 2 billion dollar domed stadium on a different site with Cleveland putting up 1 billion and team owners the rest. This is happening for just about every team in the league. I say every league city should tell these billionaires to pound sand, build or renovate your self or pull out.
So far, Virginia and Kansas City said no.
Sometimes the owner has the leverage. Buffalo is in the Rust Belt. Easy for the bulls to leave.
My boss/company has seasons tickets to the Red Sox. So, I always drive down and park at the same place. Right under the Prudential/Copley Center in this huge underground parking garage. It is also really easy to get to from the MA Pike/I90.
This is because they give a discounted price If you show your ticket. Except all the tickets are now on the MLB APP on your phone. So, when we left last time there was no attendant to take your credit card. I put it in the machine and it still charged me the full daily rate of $45. The game time rate is supposed to be $24. So, they got me.
At least the tickets were free.
