In retrospect, choosing a cell biologist (Fauci) and a geneticist (Collins) to lead the national response instead of an epidemiologist and a public health expert was a wrong move.
Something I find amazing is how few people seem to know (or care) that Fauci was also the exact same guy put in charge of the only other pandemic in my life, the AIDS epidemic.
In that he also failed spectacularly.
Did the conversation go like this?:
Trump
“who should we put in charge”
Pence
“you know Fauci was in command to stop the aids epidemic”
Trump
“Well how did it go?”
Pence
“Oh he failed miserably and even let it into our blood supply and infected 10s of thousands of people who needed blood. Oh and he is a democrat who hates you as well”.
Trump
‘Ok GOOD, tell him he is hired”.
🤦
