Since Biden [2021], my auto insurance has increased from $340 semi-annual to $434 semi-annual on a now-6-year-old vehicle.
[I had to increase the deductibles or the most recent would have been $475 semi-annual.]
The EPA is forcing closure of virtually all cheap, reliable, and clean coal-fired electric generation. Rates will continue to skyrocket. This will not be a local thing.
I am amazed our coop maintains rates like they do but it has gone up three times since '21. Just this year the Power Cost Adjustment has doubled from 1.4 cents to 2.8 cents. IT WILL GO MUCH HIGHER.
EPA is mandating changes to emissions that are not possible with the technology of the day. The "mix" they are pushing is all renewable. They are doing this by offering a choice that is not possible so they can say they are not actually outlawing conventional power.
I and others who are concerned finally got our coop to write an article in the newsletter about what is going on. It just came out this month. Green isn't cheap and the chickens are coming home to roost. I expect the price of my electricity to double in the next 5 to 10 years. EPA and FJB are destroying the electric power base in the nation mostly because they can.
I don't wish to be condescending or critical but do you really not understand what is going on? If you don't lots of others have no idea at all.
Look at your SEER rating of your AC. If it is below 12 therein lies your problem. Look for window units above 15 or central air units above 24. The cost savings is an outstanding return.
Remember, utilities are a legal monopoly or did you ever play MONOPOLY?
Rates have increased in my area, so I’m relearning to live without air conditioning. I grew up in South Florida without AC, so it’s a bit of a return to my roots. I’m also adjusting to taking cooler showers too (save on hot water).
Utilities are MAJOR political players, and pushed for the Global Warming scam/Green New Deal, to allow them to justify price increases. UNRELIABLE/seldom-when-needed “Green” generation is merely for the benefit of Major Donors and Investors, while scamming taxpayers to fork over their tax dollars to subsidize uneconomic/competition-eliminated generation.
Regulators should realize that many single-family homeowners will disconnect their home from the grid if grid electric rates become too high.
My bank uses math relentlessly so I have to watch my money too.
With 100% “fossil fuel” elimination, there is no market reason for me to remain connected to the grid.
The only people paying for the grid might be those living in formerly “affordable” housing.
Set the thermostat at 80.
Well if they are going through the roof then that just sucks. Your going to need a new roof too!
Power company financial management needs to understand that it would only take about $500 of solar panels to power the window AC unit I use.
I could cook using a crock pot and use solar hot water as is common in Israel.
After extensive research the best rate I got was a 2 year plan with BKV Energy for only 30.64% higher. BKV has a good deal. If a cheaper rate comes along (and it may over time), they will contact you offering the cheaper rate.
Trieagle was 52.7% higher for a new plan and it was my previous provider!
My father would say that ‘pigs’ get slaughtered.
“Be careful what you wish for.”
In daily use a car might need a range of 20 to 50 miles.
A car-mountable battery pack could both supply solar electricity for a family home when the sun doesn’t shine brightly as well as providing the range the family car might need for a recreational trip.
The car-mountable battery pack could easily be swapped for another at a former gas station.
Apparently, AI is being blamed for massive use of electricity as well.
They messed with Texas.

The Tesla batteries need cooling with water and glycol.
But lighter weight solid state batteries are likely to come into major use.
“about to price me out of home ownership”
Pricing pressures can cause major changes.
The greedy need to exercise self-control.
No person or entity is irreplaceable.
“My residential electric service contract is up in about a month and just checked the markets for renewal. The rates have SKYROCKETED.”
Mine is up roughly 40% from 3 years ago (glad I bought a 3-year plan, but should have gone for 5 years!). I’m not sure why it’s up so much, but I suspect it’s mainly due to powerplants that were never built, but also the cost of winterization of the grid.
i didn’t know there were places where one could choose electric companies. Here we have one and that’s all she wrote.
