Inside tiny 900-person town torn apart by senseless killing of adorable blind and deaf Shih Tzu 'Teddy' - as owner files $1M lawsuit, mayor resigns and residents call for two-man police team to be shut down

A small Missouri town is enraged over the senseless killing of a small dog by a police officer that led the mayor to resign amid growing calls to shut down the police department.

Horrifying bodycam footage captured the moment Teddy, a five-year-old, 13-pound dog, was tragically gunned down by police officer Myron Woodson, in Sturgeon on May 19.

Kevin Abrahamson stepped down as mayor after Teddy's owner, Nicholas Hunter, filed a $1million lawsuit against the city and officer Woodson alleging that his Fourteenth Amendment rights were violated.

During a regularly scheduled city aldermen meeting on Tuesday, dozens of Sturgeon residents came out to show their support for Teddy, reported The Washington Post.

'This is your town, if you don't speak up now, you might not ever get anything to change,' said a woman holding a 'Justice for Teddy.'

[Geez, get a grip of yourself.
The dog was blind, deaf and tiny. He wasn’t a mass murderer, going around town killing people.
That idiot cop needs to grow some balls. He should be embarrassed of himself.]

From the story, the dog was unaccompanied and appeared to be rabid - it was walking around in circles. The owner showed up after the fact. Who leaves a deaf and blind dog free to run around outdoors unleashed? Never mind getting hit by a car - it can’t even detect, let get away from aggressive dogs and other predators.

A rabid animal doesn’t have to do much damage for its bite to be fatal. If a bite breaks the skin and remains untreated, the recipient will almost certainly die. Treatment means having to undergo 4 rabies shots.

Lighten up, Francis.

Dogs are great escape artists. They can get out in seconds while your back is turned.

FOUR whole rabies shots to keep from dying! Horrors!

Let's hope you never have a pulmonary embolism. They give you MANY, PAINFUL shots in the belly (blood thinners). It isn't fun, but you deal with it, because the alternative is death.

This 15 pound, deaf and blind dog wasn't going to hurt anyone. I am one of the biggest supporters of law enforcement on this forum. I have family members who are/were law enforcement. That being said, this guy is a trigger happy idiot who needs to find another job.

A Shih Tzu could clamp on, not let go, and you’d hardly realize he was there.

“Unlike Andy and Barney, this guy looks like he uses intimidation and force at the least perceived provocation.”

‘roid rage? What was the dog gonna do? Bite his shoe? A little dog like that just boot him in the ass and he’ll be gone.

“Shoot the shih-tzu — take her out of the equation,” is not always good advice.

LOL!

I spent 25 years working daily with the police. The vast majority were good guys and gals, but there were always a few who should never have been hired in the first place. The problem is... once someone makes it past their probationary period it is almost impossible to get rid of them.

Thank goodness this sad sack is most likely going to get fired after killing a helpless dog that was already close to the end of his life. The dog should be honored by the police for helping get rid of this worthless piece of crap who was most likely a blight on the department. My guess is that once the guy gets fired the lawsuit will go away.

The entire issue is that the dog appeared to be a rabid stray,

According to the dumbass cop that shot the poor dog.

How many times before have we heard of cops lying just to save their sorry asses?

Even it it was OMG, "RABID", there's no way that poor little dog could have been a threat to anyone...

You know it and I know it so stop with your hypothitical shit!

I am sorry I misread the article... I thought the dog was 13... not 13 pounds. My wife and I had a blind dog. He used to walk in circles... and he was an escape artist as well. If you didn’t latch the door when you went to get the mail... somehow, he would find his way out and fall off the porch.

“Nothing gets FR more wound up than some doggie abuse story.”

I’ve come to the conclusion that everyone on FR are dog owners.

No dog is worth $1 million. Keep the officer if he apologizes and pays for the dog. He looks the kind of cop who can keep away the thugs.

Had I been the officer on scene, I would have overcome my fear of that menacing beast and crept up behind it and grabbed it by the scruff of the neck and carried it back to its owner.

But that's just me

No that officer needs to go. He has past history and he’s burned a bridge in that town. I would not want to look at his sorry ass every day if I lived there.

Does that county not have a freaking animal control officer that is trained in how to deal with animals? For real? In some places it’s called a dog warden or dog catcher.

He could have killed the dog by sitting his fat black overweight ass on it, never mind shooting it. What a “man”, killing a little blind dog. I spit on you.

Who knows, but the reality is that some dumbass cop killed a harmless, blind little dog for no legitimate reason whatsoever.

And the fact that there are idiots here who support this guy says all you need to know on how far this website is devolving.
