Went there for Operation Cobra Gold in the mid-90’s. Those monkey were everywhere then, and we were told not to mess with them because the locals believed the souls of lost loved ones existed in the monkeys, or they were reincarnated as monkeys are something like that.
1 did in my platoon got bit and had to get rabies shots, another guy had bought a bunch of stuff and a monkey ran up behind him and stole his bag, and scooted up to the roof of a building. Proceeded to absolutely rip apart everything he had bought. He stood there cursing at it. 😂
Stupid monkeys!
My Dad told me when he was in the Philippines in WWII, one morning in camp everyone was prepared for inspection. When the CO showed up, by then the monkeys had gone inside everyone’s tents and trashed them.
Lot of pissed off GIs….
