Cornyn will be safe in ‘26 if this stuff continues. He’ll be 72 and wants the majority position. Texas should be leading the charge on conservatism. Go figure.

I attended the Texas State Republican Convention as a delegate last week. The party is locked in a fight between grassroots and party elite — that’s the long and short of it.
Grassroots folks are the vast majority of those at the convention, writing the platform and legislative priorities, electing the state party chair, national convention delegates, etc. It’s an uphill battle but we’re making progress.
For example: Phelan ran unopposed in his last race in 2022; in this race he narrowly beat his grassroots opponent. Ken Paxton, the most aggressive conservative state AG in the country, the one that prick Phelan tried and failed to impeach, is HUGELY popular among the grassroots. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is a red-meat conservative, and again wildly popular among the grass roots.
We’re turning the tide. Naysayers posit that it’s too little, too slow, too late. I disagree. The trajectory is where it needs to be and with GOD’s help we’ll get ‘er done.
By the way: Texas and Florida already ARE (as you put it) “leading the charge on conservatism”.
