By Nyah Marshall | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com Funny Farm Rescue and Sanctuary in Atlantic County initially agreed this month to take in four roosters rescued from an alleged cockfighting ring.
But, when a truck arrived, there were 60 noisy birds instead.
“My volunteer called me and said, ‘Oh, there’s a couple more than what you had thought,’” Laurie Zaleski, founder of Funny Farm Rescue and Sanctuary said on Wednesday.
“I went there and the roosters were in cat carriers and there was 60 of them,” Zaleski said. “They were all crowing simultaneously and I literally almost started to cry.”
Each of the roosters arrived on May 4 with razor blades attached to their wings, which were probably used in a vicious form of cockfighting that left the birds bloodied. Zaleski had to remove the razor blades one by one using a wire cutter.
“The razor was almost like an earring but around the bone of their arm, it was horrible,” Zaleski said. “I’ve never seen that before in my life.”
Zaleski and her team did not have enough cages or volunteers to handle the unexpected number of animals. The sanctuary, which is located in the Mays Landing section of Hamilton Township, was preparing for the Spring Festival it was hosting the next morning, she said.
The roosters needed to be quarantined from other animals for at least 30 days to ensure they were free of illnesses. And, the birds had to be separated from each other to prevent them from fighting.

People are so cruel to animals
Yikes 😳
Hey New Jersey, welcome to Mexico. Cockfighting is very common south of the border. Also dog fighting.
Import the 3rd world, become the 3rd world.
Wonder what illegal alien country that little custom came from.
Never been to a cockfight, but it probably wouldn’t bother me much. I wouldn’t be able to take a dogfight though.
Diversity is Our Strength.
Illegals...most likely. Hispanics love cockfighting.
The ones around here just use leg knives, I haven’t heard of razor blades on the wings so far.
Unless it is some other 3rd world ethnic group.
do not know what part of America you all are from....but down south were we all live... rooster fighting is still going on... believe it was Chinese who brought cock fighting to America....season is just above over...fighting season stops when the cocks start to molt...Think Oklahoma was last state of outlaw cock fighting...not only men and woman come to very large events but children too ...you all might want to look at folks yards as you drive by....if cocks are pin to a leash..they are fighting them birds...never i mean never heard of razors in birds wings
I’ve never seen a lot of Mexicans in New Jersey, but last time I checked cockfighting is still legal in Puerto Rico. It could be Filipinos, Indians, or Indonesians, or some other group.
Paging Peaky Blinders.
All I know is, you have to be a real scumbag to enjoy watching animals fight to the death with extra attachments inside a little ring.
Roosters normally fight just until the weaker one runs off and keeps his mouth shut when the winner crows. They only do serious damage if they are confined and the loser can’t break away but is trapped and takes a beating.
But is some of the industrial meat plants just as bad?
Latino bird fights.
Always considered Puerto Ricans to be Hispanic. But yes, the practice is widespread though the wing razors seem rather new.
The South did have a few locales where there were nasty community fox bashing and the like. Give little kids clubs and have them beat encircled foxes to death. I think that was an Arkansas vice.
Florida had some sort of fox pen thing going on until just a few years ago, where people could set their dogs on helpless foxes.
So this very demonic form of entertainment has popped up in almost any group at some time.
That's what Biden and his goons want. They just as easily could have used the long lists of people waiting to legally become citizens. Instead they chose to work with cartels to bring in the third world.
Oh, sure. Three birds jammed in a canary sized cage is awful.
Cockfighting wouldn’t be bad IF people were satisfied to let the birds fight naturally and the loser could break away. Even if he ends up in a pot ultimately.
The evil is when people crave seeing the blood and the kill. It is like money. Money isn’t bad, it is the LOVE of money that is evil.
And raising animals in horrible conditions is another form of loving money, profit from the suffering.
