I'm putting out some feelers here for anybody interested? Start adding information and stuff but I'm not gonna talk to myself all day.
Larson starting in Row 2.
Yup- they cheated the first race of the year
I dig a little...
But Racing Is developing the Machine and. Not getting caught...
Tim Cendrick was a Track Master 20 yrs ago.
Lol, yeah, I heard that, too. I don’t blame him.
Good Job MaBarcker !
.
Best Race I ever Watched...
he won with Newgarten last year...
They caught the cheat by total accident.
Guys I wish I could post pictures on FR. I would post picture and tell you stories of Indy 500 that would blow your mind. You have never seen anything like the snake pit of the 1970’s. I’ve got a photo collection from 1971. Those were some really crazy days.
*** Life can be so cool.***
Yes! And when our men love something so much, it’s fun to be with them and take care of them, just like they do for us! If she’s anything like I am, she screamed her head off that last lap!!!
Were you at the ‘73 race?
Hoosier born and raised.
Started going to the race in ‘77 and only missed 3 til Covid hit.
40 races. Great times!
Not only was I there I was a member of the Pike High School marching band and we marched and played around the the track that day. But the race got rained out. It was an ugly year.
Did you ever run into the Southside crew in the 4th turn? I bet you did. I bet we smoked and did a few shots together. In those days everyone ran into the Southside crew. We owned the 4th turn.
I’m a Midwest transplant. I know that doesn’t happen often from where I’m a native. Much more often in the opposite direction. We sure have loved our time in the Midwest. I think this year marks 35 here. Great place to raise a family and then retire (when that becomes the right time).
I’m sure THIS RACE is held deeply within your heart. It’s quite a neat thing to be a part of, even remotely.
I might have seen you on TV!
Since I was little my family would have a 500 cookout.
My great-uncle would clear out his garage. Moved in a picnic table, grill and a TV and we would watch the 500.
Family tradition for decades!
Yup...i first watched this race as a 8YO in 1972 with my dad when Donohue won. I was immediately taken. Couldn’t wait for the ‘73 ace and wow!!
Recently stumbled across this- some amazing photos of Savage trying to pry himself from his car

That was such an ugly year. Art and Swede died. Everyone was relieved just to see it end, but I was there every day. It hardened me I’ve got to say.
Started watching the race with Dad and his Uncle when I was about 6 years old and have watched it every year since.
Hoosier born and raised. (Born in Gary at the same hospital as Michael Jackson. My only claim to fame!) and am planning to go back there when I retire.
Love that state! Filled with conservative values.
The Irish Mexican !!!
Believe it or not, I remember watching when I was a kid, maybe 10ish? Of course, I had older brothers, and one in particular always viewed himself as an Indy race driver. He always drove fast, and darted in and out of traffic. He got his share of traffic tickets, let’s put it that way.
It’s just so much fun to watch it now for me. I’ve grown more fond of Indiana the longer I’ve lived here (10 years here, 25 in Ohio before that.) It’s such a gem, and so few know that.
What Exactly was the ‘Cheat?”
the Penske cars were using push 2 pass on restarts during the first two races, which is not allowed. The software is supposed to disallow P2P disablement on restarts and the opening lap. Cindrich claimed there was an update that was never downloaded to prevent it from happening. Others said the Penske cars purposely circumvented it.
They accidentally found the error during the time trials or warm up in the lead up to the Barber race
