A lady I worked with in Mountain View, Ca in 1990 said that she went thru Jr High and High School with The Beach Boys, said that they were real jerks after they started performing. Of course, she was a jerk herself, so I take that under advisement.
She was just a sourpuss because her daddy took her T-bird away.
My ex husband toured briefly with the Beach Boys in the 70’s. His band was the opening act.
After they started performing they were jerks? Ok. So what. We don’t live in the same universe as celebrities. Just stay away from them and you’ll be fine.
I’m not disputing your acquaintance’s memories, but it’s worth noting that Brian Wilson, Mike Love and Al Jardine were all more than 1 year out of high school when the band launched in 1961, so it might be reasonable to question how much contact she actually had with them following their success. Of course, it’s certain very possible that the band’s high-school age- cohort, Dennis Wilson, Carl Wilson & David Marks were the obnoxious jerks of which she spoke, especially Dennis based on his history.
